The PhD Community of the School of Law of Queen Mary University of London is delighted to invite all UK postgraduate law students to attend the forthcoming Law PhD Conference – “Pushing Legal Knowledge Boundaries” held in the heart of London. Dramatic developments in the Middle East have sparked a wide-ranging debate about the form and content of democracy and statehood, whilst in other contexts in Asia and Africa, the challenge posed by sub-state nationalisms to established categories of law and politics in relation to nations, states and the international order has been the subject of ongoing academic and policy debates.

Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge – an international law firm with offices in London, US and Hong Kong – are hosting an open day where students and graduates can find out more about the firm and the work it does.

The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple will be holding its annual Question and Answer Day on Sunday 19th June 2011 from 10am- 5pm in the Inner Temple Hall in Central London. The event is open to all those interested in a career at the Bar who have not yet started the BPTC or joined an Inn.

ELSA plans to launch a pilot mentoring scheme for undergraduates who are interested in going to the Bar. If you would like to be considered you must submit your application by Sunday 29th May.

The Law Society has developed an event that aims to prepare students from diverse backgrounds for a career in the solicitors’ profession. This FREE event will be held at the University of West England. If you will be in Bristol on Wednesday 1st June, you are welcome to attend.

ELSA Bucharest is organising two summer schools in beautiful Brasov, Romania. Topics of the law schools are banking & finance law OR the law of war / humanitarian law. More details can be found on the summer school websites. Cost for ELSA London members is 28 euros per day inclusive, non members are also welcome (30 euros p/d). Dates: 18 – 29 July 2011.

ELSA Brno invites ELSA London members to the Czech Republic in September. If you are looking for something to do before the new academic year starts, a week long summer school on Health Law – including lots of social activities! – might be just what the doctor ordered.
