Academic Activities

Academic Activities are a tool for providing legal information and assist the development of the legal profession in Europe. Through its Academic Activities ELSA makes a direct contribution to legal education.

AA = Absolutely Academic

ELSA has during the years developed a considerable number of different projects. Publications such as ELSA Selected Papers on European Law (SPEL) and ELSA Guide to Legal Studies in Europe (GLSE) are an important part of ELSA's activities. The GLSE is also a part of the Studies Abroad Programme, which aims to encourage students to study in foreign countries. Furthermore, there are competitions such as Moot Court Competitions and Essay Competitions as well as events organised with professional life in mind within the Lawyers at Work events. Please see publications for more information.

This year (2006/7) ELSA London will launch our own academic journal. It is hoped that this online Law Review will be widely read and contributed to. We intend to encourage genuine intellectual debate and to this end, we will welcome peer review of any articles published by us. The first part of our online law review will be called "Master Pieces" because it will primarily consist of LLM dissertations. We also plan to include much shorter pieces and top quality work from undergraduates. After each dissertation, essay or article readers will have the opportunity to make any comments about the work in the fora provided. The author will also be able to answer any questions about his or her work in the fora should that be necessary.

We also intend to be a source for information about any and all competitions taking place in London, the UK or internationally. Not only will you be able to practise mooting and debating with ELSA London, you will also be able to put these skills to the test by entering competitions.

AA = Absolutely Amazing

In order to enable individuals to make use of the widespread ELSA network to obtain scientific legal information that may not be available in their own countries ELSA focuses on legal research. This research can be done with the help of the Legal Research Groups and the ELSA Law Web.
