Through Seminars & Conferences ELSA aims to give law students and young lawyers from different countries the opportunity to learn about and discuss legal topics that are not usually included in university curricula. In this way we hope to contribute to a better legal, cultural and social education for our members.
Seminars and Conferences are considered to be one of ELSA's key areas (along with AA and STEP) and S&C serves to complement the formal university curriculum by raising students' consciousness and understanding of global, legal, social, economic and environmental issues. The programme includes
International Seminars and Conferences are events that deal with a legal topic of high international interest and provide additional skills and knowledge to those who attend. At a seminar, topics will be discussed in a plenary while conferences entail more individual participation and scientific contribution. To this end, participants tend to be divided into workshops where they will discuss given topics/problems. The workshops then put together their findings/conclusion and each one presents its report in plenary.
An international seminar or conference provides accommodation for the participants and lasts at least 3 days. More than 50 international seminars and conferences are held annually. If you are interested in attending any of these you should keep an eye on the ELSA International Events page.
An ELSA Law School is an event that aims to be annual and has a academic programme with a legal topic. Law Schools are organised in close co-operation with academic or institutional partner(s), i.e. with law faculties, legal institutes etc. The academic programme includes lectures followed by workshops, which seek to examine and explore more deeply different areas of the lecture.
Study Visits, social or academic exchanges, are organised by at least one local group. Study Visits may be single (one local group visits another, no return visit planned), bilateral (one local group visits another which in return visits them), multilateral (more than two local groups visiting each other), or institutional. Institutional Visits are Study Visits to international governmental or non-governmental organisations, public administrations or private institutions.
More Information can be found on the study and Institutional Visits page
