Fantastic Internship Opportunity with LexisNexis ....

Apply now!

LexisNexis is offering an exciting opportunity for native (or fluent) speaking Portuguese AND Danish law students to gain Legal Research experience in the field of the implementation of EU Directives into Portuguese legislation.

The role offers the successful candidate the chance to get involved in a unique new project and to work as part of a dynamic multicultural legal team.

A very good level of the language required is a must, with native speaker level a definite advantage.

All applicants must have a good knowledge, understanding, and experience of EU legal systems and legislation (Portugal, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Poland and the Netherlands) so if you have studied law in your own country before coming to London, this would be advantageous.

The trainee will be:

  • tracking the implementation of EU directives in a Member State by using all means of information available for example official publications, websites, mass media, etc;
  • contacting the authorities of the Member State (Parliament, Government, different ministries, regulation authorities, etc); help us to build a network of contacts throughout the Member States;
  • interpreting and possibly translating national legislation from the language of the Member State into English;
  • working side-by-side with our in-house legal experts in assessing the impact of a directive on national legislation (the type of national legislation depends on your language skill/s).

Duration

The intern will undertake work experience for up to 3 months, with the start date to be arranged between the candidate and LexisNexis. You can fit the time around your studies. For example, you can do a combination of mornings and afternoons. The next batch of interns will start work in the new yearbut interviews will take place before Christmas.

Benefits

Working side-by-side with our EU legal experts will provide the candidate with invaluable experience and understanding on how different Member States approach the difficult task of implementing EU Law within their national legislations. The team is young and enthusiastic and the internship will provide an opportunity for the trainee to learn more about EU law.

Ultimately, the experience gained would become an extremely beneficial added value when applying for jobs dealing directly with EU Law either in-house or in the legal field.

Please note that while there is no salary for the internship, we do provide some living costs e.g. lunch and travel.

LexisNexis is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications regardless of sex, marital status, ethnic origin, religion, disability, sexual orientation or age.
